Ministry Leader(s): Deloris Van Cleave
*The Christian Service Center
The mission of the Christian Service Center is to share the love of Jesus Chris by providing for the physical and spiritual needs of those who come to them for help. The Service Center has been in operation since 1966 and is a significant provider to low-income people in Abilene who are in need of the basics of life. The ministry is funded by donations from churches, individuals, and private foundations in Abilene. As a congregation, Westgate partners with this ministry by participating in their annual “Operation Blue Jeans.” This drive seeks to raise money to purchase new jeans for needy children. In addition to the school clothes, there is an annual drive to collect and donate school supplies to low-income elementary and middle school children.
Individually, you can volunteer with the Christian Service Center by helping at their facility at 901 Mesquite Street. They have ongoing needs with sorting clothes and other donated items as well as working with their clients to help select clothes and other items.
For more information, contact Roberta Brown, Christian Service Center Coordinator of Volunteer Services at 325-673-7531.
*Christian Homes of Abilene
Christian Homes and Family Services provides residential and community-based care for young women with unplanned pregnancies. Most often, the care culminates in the agency finding loving parents to adopt their precious babies. Christian Homes & Family Services also provides foster care for young needy children. As a congregation, Westgate partners with this ministry by participating in their annual “Change Can” drive to help raise money for their operating expenses.
Individually, you can make an eternal difference in the life of a child, young woman, or an entire family, when you volunteer at Christian Homes and Family Services. Their website lists many opportunities where your assistance would be valuable: working with birth mothers, working in the local offices, working from your home, or working at one of their special events.

*Global Samaritan
Global Samaritan’s mission is to relieve human suffering by demonstrating the compassion of Jesus to the poor and hurting people of the world. We gather the surplus of American’s medical, agricultural and educational supplies, domestic goods, food, and other materials, and ship it to reliable consignees in the U.S. and around the world. We also engage in selected developmental projects in Third World countries. There are always opportunities for volunteers to help pick up, sort or pack donated items for shipment. Books and teaching supplies have to be sorted and phones need to be answered. This time of year cleaning decorations for the Fall Benefit Dinner in October is a “must do”. But most of all, PRAY that these shipments will open doors to share the Good News of Messiah.
