Small Group Ministry
Ministry Leader(s): BJ McMichael
“…to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12-13).
This passage from Ephesians sets the purpose for our Small Group Ministry at Westgate: service, unity, maturity, and Christlikeness. This year, Westgate launched this new small group ministry with the hopes of enhancing the degree of belonging each member feels within this congregation. The groups are intended to (1) connect members of this body in deep, meaningful, and intimate ways; (2) clearly articulate the core values of those who seek to live a Kingdom Life; and (3) embody these values in their relationships with one another and with friends and neighbors. Group meetings will focus on Bible study, prayer, and conversation with the goal of transformation into the image of Christ. As a community of believers devoted to Christ, Westgate seeks to be a place where there is always a seat at the table. Our Small Group Ministry is one of our central efforts to foster that strong sense of connection to one another and to God.
Ideally, groups will have between 8-12 adults: the number of children will vary from group to group. Although some groups will begin as needed, formal congregation-wide launching of new groups will take place each fall and winter. Two specific ways you can help this ministry are (1) join an existing group by talking to current group leaders or the Family Minister, and (2) pray about your involvement in this ministry, and then talk to the Family Minister about the next training session for group leaders and hosts and plan to start a new group.
