Camp Champion on Tuesday and Wednesday
Here’s what all happened Tuesday and Wednesday!
Sorry I haven’t posted more often! Here’s what’s been happening . . . .
Every morning begins the same - breakfast, wake-up singing, class, morning devo (Tyler helped lead on Tuesday and Lauren, Jaelynn, Erin, and KayLee helped Wednesday), and then class.
Tuesday just before lunch, they had their own version of the dating game, but called “The BFF Game” - for the robots! The robots chose their BFF this way, and now those 2 groups are to do things together, taking care of the robots together, etc. Then it was lunch, another class, and then some more group time and free-time. After free time was supper and then they had a hypnotist come - no campers participated there - just counselors and adults! No, not me either!! Following that, they played a hilarious game in which the counselors had to put stockings on their head, with eggs in them . . . then other counselors were to break the eggs, using dead fish. Super gross. Kids part was to protect their counselors!
Wednesday afternoon, tragedy struck. The groups had to decide if their assigned BFF was truly a BFF. Was it time to end that relationship? If they chose it was time to end it, they selected an envelope. That is what the “robot death by ....” pictures were about. Most chose that, mainly because they wanted to see the destruction! At the end of the day, after skating in the evening, they discussed how it felt to watch their robot be destroyed by somebody else. Connection to God watching his children be hurt by others was made, as well as making it even more personal to how we are sometimes the ones hurting God’s children. Then the groups got together and rebuilt their BFF’s robot!
The days are long and they are exhausted at the end! Looking forward to another great day today!!
Camp Champion Monday
Monday has come and gone!! What a busy and fun day!
After breakfast, they woke us up by singing some fast-paced-action-filled songs and then sent them off to class in their groups. After one class, they gathered all together again for a morning devotional and then went to another class. Following the 2nd class, they had “Basic Training,” where they were given a treasure map (after the ninja stole some of the better maps! Selfish Ninja!) and were sent off to find the treasure! Unfortunately, none of the groups found the treasure as the maps were not detailed enough, at least according to the kids. After the search, they got to have lunch to give them enough energy to get through the afternoon.
The afternoon began with CIA, “Champions In Action”, where each group was given a box of supplies and told they had to make a robot to join their group. They used boxes, tape, pipe cleaners, pans, cardboard, etc to create a new member, complete with crazy story on how they came to be. And named. They will be a part of the group and will stay with various kids during the week.
After a break for about an hour or so, we loaded the buses and went to Joyland! At this small amusement park, they not only had fun but also got super hot and tired! And had a blast on the rides without having to wait in much of a line, if a line at all! Pizza was brought to us in the park there by Joyland and then we came back for a time of robot story telling (each group made up a song/skit to share with the entire camp) and then more singing and a wrap up of the day - connecting much of what they had done to God’s story - he loved us after creating us too, but he doesn’t grow weary with us as we grow weary with our robots, lugging them around everywhere!
Following this, they got a snack in their dorms and had a dorm devotional with those in rooms nearby. A great day - they were zonked - they slept hard - they are tired - some are missing parents but are doing okay.
Camp Champion: Sunday
Recap!
We arrived! And camp has begun! Today they have been sticking together pretty much, but who can blame them? This is a new environment and experience for them all. They are in their groups with their counselors right now, and I am seeing them laugh with their new friends. Each of our 6 here do have one other from Westgate in their group. Look here each night as I will post a recap of their days and a few pictures too (assuming I can handle all this technology! You should be so impressed with me!!)
The theme for the week is “inneraction” and I have a feeling they will all be looking inward at their own lives. Pray for them each day! With me this week is Erin, Lauren, Jaelynn, Tyler, KayLee, and Kaleigh.
A blog just for us!
We are about to start adding blog posts here! Please check back for updates!
