Mission News 10th anniversary of the national registration of the Ukrainian Bible Institute. Doug Reeves and Marge Reeves served as Pulpit minister for Westgate from 1992 until 1997. In 1997 Doug was invited by the Sunset International Bible Institute to direct a new ministry training school in Donetsk, Ukraine. Doug and Marge lived in Ukraine from 1997 through 2001. In November of 2001, Doug became the Assistant Dean of International Studies with Sunset International Bible Institute The experiences and insights gained through years of teaching and training ministers plus years of personal ministry are invaluable in his role with Sunset. Paul wrote that God has given some to be teachers - “To prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Doug's primary role is with the schools in Europe and the former Soviet Union, but he works in support of more than 60 international schools to develop curriculums, establish academic polices and assist in the expansion of each school. He was instrumental in the establishing ministry training programs in Zambia, Botswana, Albania, Korea and Cambodia. He served as an advisor and consultant in forming Spanish ministry training based in Houston, Texas. Under Doug’s direction, the International Translation Center has completed over 40 translation projects thus allowing our international student’s access to quality study materials in their native language. On September 1st, Doug and Marge will return to Donetsk, Ukraine to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the national registration of the Ukrainian Bible Institute. Laura Ashlock will accompany them and visit a few of the orphanages and children's hospitals that receive assistance through the school. The entire month of October we will be focusing our attentions on Mission Work both here in Abilene (with-in our church and in the community) and also around the world (the work of Doug and Marge Reeves and Mark Clancy). We hope you will be praying for this amazing opportunity where we will delve into the work of missions and what it means for us as Christians as well.

School Supplies for Girls’ Schools in Afghanistan. For the last two years, Laura Templeton has collected and sent school supplies to a group in Afghanistan that distributes them to schools in the Kabul area, particularly girls’ schools. The needs are great but they are so appreciative of the little that is sent. Although I don’t ship the kits till later in the year, I like to start in July because school supplies are so inexpensive right now. If you’d like to be a part of this, please bring me individual supplies from the list, or put together as many kits as you’d like. Note: Bright colors are fine, but PLEASE avoid anything TV or movie related. This is a very conservative culture and we don’t want to give any reason to offend. The school supplies are put together into 1 gallon-size zip-lock plastic bags that each contains: 2 pencils, 2 extra eraser tops, 2 spiral notebooks (1 subject, approximately 70 pages each), 1 pencil sharpener, 1 pair of scissors (student size), 1 glue stick, 1 box of Crayola crayons (24 count). Please leave in the church office by 15 September!

Workroom Needs: All Full! The Pantry Needs: Our FOOD PANTRY is in need of: Please help us RE-STOCK our food pantry this week and bring a package of spaghetti noodles, a jar of sauce and a canned vegetable. The pantry could use some CANNED FOOD. Please add this to your weekly shopping list and leave them in the kitchen by the pantry. ALL items need to be NON-PERISHABLE. Please don’t forget our food pantry next time you’re at the grocery store. Non-perishables: Canned veggies/canned meats, Pasta (hamburger helper, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, etc.), Juice (canned or bottles), Peanut butter, jelly/jam. We understand the impulse is to grab an extra can of something when you are at the store, but help us HELP OTHERS by providing MEALS. Think: Spaghetti noodles and sauce, or box dinners (all included), 2 cans of Tuna and Macaroni & Cheese. Anything that you might serve your family is a safe bet for our food pantry! We could always use soap, shampoo and other hygiene products. The Kitchen Needs: We could really use some butter/oleo/margarine containers, the large size, plastic or Ziploc bowls with lids. Food needs to be stored or given away some times at meals. THANK YOU!! We are so blessed to ask and receive so bountifully for our pantry!! We have been able to help, on average, two families a week with your generous contributions. Thank you so much, and keep up the good work!!
For years now we have supported CHOA with our change cans, now we can support Abilene Christian Schools with the time it takes to cut out a box top. Selected General Mills products have on them a “Box Top for Education” coupon worth ten cents when turned in by a school. The elders have authorized the collection of these coupons for the purpose of supporting Christian Education in our community. If you are collecting these for your child’s or grandchild’s school, please don’t feel obligated to give these coupons to ACS, but if you are not collecting for anyone, consider doing so for this good cause. You may put your donations in the collection box next to the Sound Room door. Thank You for all the "Box Tops" you have given. You have helped a worthwhile organization.
