Elizabeth’s Supporting Role
Luke 1: 39-45 Unlike Herod, Elizabeth and John were ok being “just supporting” characters in God’s story. Elizabeth received the good news as it should be received, with Joy and celebration. They were not mad that they lost something, but glad to be part of God’s redemptive work.
Herod’s Main Character Syndrome
Matthew 2: 1-8 We will explore how Herod’s insecurity and hunger for power made him reject the good news. Sometimes we, like Herod, choose to reject the things God is doing out of an act of self preservation. We need to learn to take the back seat and let God be the main character.
A Blessing of Power
Ephesians 3: 14-21 We will explore Paul’s prayer/blessing for the church at Ephesus. We will explore the interconnectedness of power, love, knowledge and God’s dwelling within us.
The Priestly Blessing
Numbers 6: 22-27 We will explore the meaning of this blessing. We will give attention to the light of God’s face and explore how powerful it is for God to just look our way for a moment.
The Power of Words
Proverbs 16: 21-28 We will establish how powerful our words can be, and thus how powerful we are. So, we will be encouraged to be careful with our speech and to speak blessings often.
Let the Children Come to Me
Matthew 19: 13-15 Jesus’s teachings placed children in a dignified place and led believers to care for the kids that no one else cared about. Caring for children and orphanages are powerful forms of missions.
Jesus Abiding in You
John 6: 48-58 As a charge for WATS, we will explore what it means to consume Jesus, to represent him, and to have him with us wherever we go.
Serving the “Least of These”
Matthew 25: 34-40 We will see how missions is loving and serving the “least of these” and we can all be missionaries by sharing Christ’s message of love.
Communion
1 Corinthians 11: 23-29 We will explore the meaning and history of communion.
Baptism
Romans 6: 1-7 We will explore the meaning of baptism, respond to common baptism questions/misconceptions, and hopefully prompt some no pressure conversation about baptism with parents and kids.
On Togetherness
Ecclesiastes 4: 8-12 The text starts with a sad story of a lonely isolated person who has chosen to pursue wealth, but realizes it doesn’t matter if there is no one to enjoy it with. The message will encourage us to connect, maintain relationships, and evaluate mindsets that are isolating us/making us lonely. Love/relationships is what gives life meaning.
On Work
Hebrews 6: 10-12 This Sunday we will celebrate educators and give Bibles to our 1st graders. The theme will focus on working as for the Lord, and doing good even when it’s not as seen or as appreciated as we would like . We will also be encouraged to see and appreciate the good things we see people doing around us.
