A Prayer for Grads
Colossians 1: 9-12 I will use this scripture as a blessing for our seniors. I will use it to express our hopes for them, while also communicating what we believe is really valuable (not sports prowess, prestige, or business world “success”) but who they are in Christ
Reminders of Mom
John 8: 1-11 We will look at the story of the collective mercy of the crowd in the near stoning of the sinful women. We will explore how Jesus likely saw his mom, or who his mom could have been, when he deals with “sinful women” in the Bible. For communion we will explore how Mary suffered as a mother. Resurrection Mindset
Philippians 4:4-9 Now that Easter has passed, I want to emphasize how the work of the Resurrection is not over, but represents an ongoing transformation that takes place within us. Specifically, I will highlight Scripture that demonstrates the transformation that takes place in our minds (and mindset) through the work of the Holy Spirit, causing us to think and behave more like Christ. Mary Anoints Jesus
John 12: 1-8 Sometimes accepting grace and help is hard. Jesus shows us how to receive a lavish gift. Mary seems to get it, when others don’t and she performs a moving act of worship.
The Parable of the Fig Tree
Luke 13: 6-9 This is really part 2 to last week’s sermon. Repentance means admitting wrong, and changing by taking a step in faith. We will also explore the connection between “bearing fruit” and repentance. God is patient.
Repent or Perish
Luke 13:1-5 The past few weeks have focused on identifying sin, this message will emphasize handling the sin via repentance. Repentance means admitting wrong, and changing by taking a step in faith. We will also explore the connection between “bearing fruit” and repentance.
A Prophet’s Destiny
Luke 13: 31-35 In this text Jesus’s pushes through and continues to love and serve Israel (ultimately by going to the cross) even as Israel continually rejects him. We will be challenged to look and see in what ways we are fighting/rejecting what God is doing. Then we will be moved to worship as we realize God pursues us, even as we reject him.
